I love how this story turns a simple errand into a gentle adventure, and the way the old woman trades plums along the path feels so clever and warm. The soft, repetitive rhythm in the text made it perfect for reading aloud to my grandson at bedtime. We've already read it three times this week.

My granddaughter asked for it three times in one week — the story's gentle repetition and trading adventure really hooks her. The pages have that lovely old-fashioned feel that makes bedtime reading special.

The illustrations are so warm and cozy, my four-year-old noticed the basket of plums on every page before I did. The simple repeating structure kept her engaged through the whole story, and we both loved guessing what would happen next.
