Quick answer
Combine the Maileg Watering Can and Mouse Princess playset for layered pretend play that mixes gardening, fairytale storytelling, and everyday routines.
Why pair these two Maileg items?
The Maileg Mouse Princess playset invites children to act out a beloved fairytale, while the Watering Can opens up a garden-care scenario. Together they let kids switch between magical and domestic roles without needing extra props. The contrast also helps toddlers understand that the same character can do different things — a small step toward flexible thinking.
Trade-off to keep in mind
The Watering Can is a miniature accessory (4 cm high) meant for small hands. It won't hold real water for long, so it works best as a pretend prop rather than a functional garden tool. If your child insists on real water, set up a shallow tray and supervise closely.
How to combine the Watering Can and Mouse Princess for creative play
- Set up the castle garden: Place the cardboard castle on a low table or floor mat. Arrange a few toy flower pots or small blocks around it. Hand your child the Watering Can and say the princess needs help watering her garden before bedtime. If your child ignores the garden, let the mouse simply carry the can into the castle — the action still builds narrative.
- Introduce the pea discovery game: Hide the tiny pea (from the playset) under one of the mattresses or inside a flower pot. Ask your child to find it while the princess pretends to sleep. Switch roles: you hide, they seek. Children under 3 may mouth the pea; supervise or use a larger substitute like a dried bean.
- Add a watering routine to the bedtime story: After the pea is found, have the princess water the flowers, then climb onto the mattresses. Your child can narrate: "Good night, Princess. See you in the morning." If your child rushes through the watering, slow down by asking what color each flower is or how many scoops the can holds.
